\n\t\t\tAbout Genoa\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t<\/span>\n\n\t<\/div>[vc_column_text]Genoa (Italian:\u00a0Genova<\/em>; Ligurian:\u00a0Z\u00eana<\/em>) is the capital of the Italian region of Liguria. Named \u201cla Superba\u201d (\u201cthe proud one\u201d) by the poet Francesco Petrarca, Genoa has historically represented one of the most important harbors of the Mediterranean and the capital of the most powerful maritime republics for over seven centuries. Genoa is today a major center for finance and commerce and hosts several leading companies in the sector of shipbuilding, cruise lines, marine equipment and energy.<\/p>\n

The city is rich in cultural history in art, music and cuisine. It was the birthplace of Cristoforo Colombo, Niccol\u00f2 Paganini, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Renzo Piano. Genoa is a city recognized as a UNESCO heritage site for its famous Palazzi dei Rolli and it is one of Italy\u2019s most popular tourist destinations. Its historical centre is noted for its many examples of medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and Gothic architecture. Its palaces and museums host fantastic works by Rubens, Caravaggio, Antonello da Messina, and Van Dyck. The heart of the old city is made up of tiny streets and alleys called Caruggi or Vicoli. The city is generally safe, but caution is to be applied, especially at night and in the more quiet zones toward Piazza Principe and the old harbor.<\/p>\n

The city of Genoa covers an area of 243 square kilometers between the Ligurian Sea and the Apennine Mountains, with beautiful landscapes, roads and trekking routes from the sea to the mountains.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space]\t

The Aquarium of Genoa hosts the most extensive range of aquatic biodiversity in Europe. The exhibition gallery consists of over 70 exhibits and about 12,000 specimens of 600 species, from all the seas of the world.<\/p>\n

Located in the Porto Antico Area, the ancient port area in the heart of Genoa, redesigned by Renzo Piano in 1992 and now a vibrant area with restaurants, bars, shopping places and summer events.<\/p>\n

Villa Lo Zerbino is one of the residences that best attests to the historical and artistic wealth of the aristocratic Genoese families during the most resplendent period of the Republic, called the Siglo de Los Genoveses by the historian Fernand Braudel. Built in the sixteenth century by the Balbi family, the villa owes its name to its peculiar location outside the city walls, in the midst of unkempt fields called “zerbi” in the Genoese dialect.<\/p>\n

However, following the urban revolutions of the nineteenth century, today the villa is fully integrated in the urban context. Overlooking the city from its elevated position, the garden that faces the historic center offers a spectacular panoramic view of the City of Genoa.<\/p>\n
