The investigation of biomimetic systems can serve two complementary goals. First, a suitably designed and configured biomimetic artefact can be used to test theories about the natural system of interest. Second, biomimetic technologies can provide useful, elegant and efficient solutions to unsolved challenges in science and engineering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biohybrid<\/strong>\u00a0systems are formed by combining at least one biological component\u2014an existing living system\u2014and at least one artificial, newly-engineered component. By passing information in one or both directions, such a system forms a new hybrid bio-artificial entity. The theme of the conference also encompasses biomimetic methods for manufacture, repair, and recycling inspired by natural processes such as reproduction, digestion, morphogenesis and metamorphosis.<\/p>\n<p>The following are some examples of \u201cLiving Machines\u201d as featured at past conferences:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Biomimetic robots and their component technologies (sensors, actuators, processors) that can intelligently interact with their environments.<\/li>\n<li>Active biomimetic materials and structures that self-organize and self-repair.<\/li>\n<li>Nature-inspired designs and manufacturing processes.<\/li>\n<li>Biomimetic computers\u2014neuromimetic emulations of the physiological basis for intelligent behaviour.<\/li>\n<li>Biohybrid brain-machine interfaces and neural implants.<\/li>\n<li>Artificial organs and body-parts including sensory organ-chip hybrids and intelligent prostheses.<\/li>\n<li>Organism-level biohybrids such as robot-animal or robot-human systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>ACTIVITIES<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The main conference will take the form of a\u00a0<strong>three-day single-track oral\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0poster presentation programme<\/strong>, 28th to 30st July 2020, hosted <strong>online via Zoom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference programme will include\u00a0<strong>four plenary lectures<\/strong>\u00a0from leading international researchers in biomimetic and biohybrid systems, and the demonstrations of state-of-the-art living machine technologies<\/p>\n<h4><strong>SUBMITTING TO LIVING MACHINES 2020<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>We invite both\u00a0<strong>full papers<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>extended abstracts\u00a0<\/strong>in areas related to the conference themes. see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/livingmachinesconference.eu\/2020\/submission\/\">SUBMISSION<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>SPONSORSHIP<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Call for Sponsors.<\/strong>\u00a0Organisations wishing to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/livingmachinesconference.eu\/2020\/sponsors\/\">sponsor the conference<\/a>\u00a0in any way and gain the corresponding benefits by promoting themselves and their products to through conference publications, the conference web-site, and conference publicity are encouraged to contact the conference organisers to discuss the terms of sponsorship and necessary arrangements.
